10 English-Language Films That Excite Me This Quarter!
1. BURN AFTER READING directed by Joel & Ethan Coen
why? Because it's the new film by the Coen Brothers. I love their work and I love seeing Frances McDormand in their films. I rooted for her bigtime in "Fargo" and I have piously followed her appearances in all Coen films from then on. Check the jaw-dropping cast: George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, J.K.Simmons, Tilda Swinton and Brad Pitt.
why? Filmmaker Guy Maddin makes films that nobody else does and I love many Canadian filmmakers (my number one fave happens to be David Cronenberg). Maddin describes "My Winnipeg" as docu-fantasia about his hometown. This is his ode to Winnipeg before he makes his great escape from his town.
why? For some reason, this movie intrigues me. It looks like a psychological thriller but it stretches the idea to darker borders. A public radio reporter receives a tip from a mysterious girl that once a doctor was bribed into amputating one man's leg. Why would someone do this? Ah...now this interests me.
why? The poster is cool and the teaser trailer rocks. The tagline says: "Reality is in the mind of the beholder". Need I say more? Oh...and Traci Lords is in here.
why? Because it is so timely. Gas prices soaring high! Middle-class people can't afford buying new cars anymore! Sex on cars aren't that common anymore! It's time for a revolution! Why not try a car that runs on Blood! It stars a grown up Anna "My Girl" Chlumsy! Yeah!!!
why? Like I need an explanation for this one. Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckart and Maggie Gylenhaal. And Christopher Nolan. All these and the meeting of Batman and his number one nemesis, The Joker.
why? Because Aja is back at what he does best. Scaring people. Sans the gore. So I'm looking forward to this one with Kiefer Sutherland playing lead (he's head of security at a department store).
8. X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE directed by Chris Carter
why? Okay, let's forget about its cheesy subtitle. I'm a fan of the X-Files series so it makes so much sense if I get excited with this one. Some mysteries remain unsolved. Some truths are hidden. Oh well...it's time for us to believe.
why? The poster and trailer interest me. Although I have to admit that because of "Sideways" (a classic wine movie) this movie might have problems reaching out to both movie and wine lovers. But then again, the movie's trailer seems very interesting.
why? This is based from the novel by the author of The Fight Club. The movie's being paraded as vulgar and hilarious. Hmmm....seems interesting. And Anjelica Huston's here. I haven't seen her for a long time in movies!
WOoo Hoo! i'm excited for these movies too! Heard about "Burn after Reading".. will definitely look out for these titles when they show it (p.s. i hope everything gets shown in singapore) Btw, i'm visiting manila soon! in july & sept. if you're free lets meet up / have dinner/coffee :D
panalo! how i would love to work for all these films even though they can only offer me to make coffee for them.. did that make sense? haha I hope these films reach our shores in the cinema!

Me I want to observe. Well....maybe brew coffee for them too. So long as I get my own doze of caffeine. Freebie. =P
